The project
Wahi Pana (Storied Places)
The Wahi Pana (Storied Places) project in Honolulu activates 11 public art sites across O'ahu to reclaim and share Indigenous and local histories with residents and visitors. Phases I and II are now open at key cultural and natural sites.
Honolulu's team has approached these activations with flexibility and creativity, as many installations are located in nontraditional or highly constrained spaces that require customized solutions. Throughout this process, CURE has served primarily in an advisory capacity, as the city opted to have their local agency, DTL, take the lead due to cultural sensitivities tied to the work and community context. We have given strategic advice on their partnership strategy with local hotels, which has resulted in the integration of Wahi Pana into "In The Southern Sun," within Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa. We are also currently working to launch a digital advertising campaign.
